Lincoln, Neb., February 1, 2007 -- Education planning and financing company, Nelnet, is gearing up for the annual nationwide program that helps education-seeking families jumpstart the financial aid process. College Goal SundaySM is a national event that helps college-bound students with the first step in applying for financial aid.

Nelnet is teaming with College Goal SundaySM across the country to offer expert advice to students completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Nelnet volunteers will join others to guide students and families through the financial aid process in multiple locations:

  • Arizona – February 11
  • Colorado – February 11
  • Indiana – February 11
  • Kansas – February 11
  • Texas – February 24 (Saturday)
  • Florida – February 25

"Assisting the education-seeking family through College Goal Sunday aligns with our vision of making educational dream possible," said David Bottegal, Nelnet's Chief Executive Officer of Education Services. "Helping students and families reach their goals supports communities in each of these states."

The FAFSA is used to apply for federal student financial aid, such as Pell grants and college work-study. Additionally, many states and schools use FAFSA information to award their financial aid. All students should submit the FAFSA to avoid missing out on federal financial aid.

The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) manages College Goal SundaySM, which provides free assistance to new and returning students. For information on the program including the location nearest to you, visit www.collegegoalsundayUSA.org.
