Lincoln, Neb., August 24, 2006 – Nelnet will honor more than 60 students of North Georgia College & State University who were deployed for active duty with the Georgia Army National Guard’s 48th Brigade. The cadets served in Iraq for one year and will return to school for the fall semester. A Welcome Home ceremony will take place on Monday, August 28 at 4 p.m. on the campus drill field in Dahlonega, Georgia.
The event will feature remarks from Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, Dahlonega Mayor Gary McCullough, 48th Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Stewart Rodeheaver, as well as Nelnet President Jeff Noordhoek.
Nelnet will present a plaque, which includes a group photo of the cadets, as well as a commemorative Georgia coin to each student. In addition, local retailers will provide welcome home baskets at the celebration. The event is open to the university community and public.
