Washington, D.C., July 17, 2007 – Nelnet, a leading education planning and financing company, contributed $5,000 to For Love of Children (FLOC), a local organization offering educational services that equip high-risk children and youth with the skills necessary to break the cycle of poverty, become life-long learners, and make substantial contributions to their communities. Last week, Nelnet hosted a 5k charity run/walk in Anacostia Park in the nation’s capital and matched the $10 registration fee for more than 100 participants of the race.
“We are just so appreciative of the support and the $5,000 gift that will certainly help us provide educational services to more than 500 vulnerable children and teens here in Washington, D.C,” said FLOC Executive Director Timothy Payne. “Our students were honored to participate and they would especially like to thank the people of Nelnet who were so incredible and helpful in making this such a successful event. A child with a dream is a child with a future.”
The fourth annual Nelnet Race for Education was held in conjunction with the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) conference. “It was so rewarding to see the hard-working kids at FLOC in this year’s race, said David Bottegal, Chief Executive Officer of Nelnet’s Education Services division. “We are proud to support education-seeking families across the country and assist them in fulfilling their dreams.”
